Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of chevron olecranon osteotom y and bilateral reconstruction plate as operative treatm ent for distal hum erus intercondylar fracture.

Materials and methods: Am ong patients operated for distal hum erus intercondylar fracture in our hospital from June, 1997 to O ctober, 2005, 26 patients were selected w ho could be follow ed-up for m ore than one year. The average follow-up period was 15 m onths. All olecranon osteotom ies w ere chevron osteotom y and all fractures w ere treated with internal fixation using bilateral reconstruction plate. The ulnar nerve was checked in all cases. Three patients in w hich case the plate m ight irritate the ulnar nerve, received w ith ulnar nerve anterior transposition. Cassebaum ¡¯s classification and M ayo elbow perform ance score were used to evaluate at three, six and tw elve m onths.

Results: M ean bone union period was 11.7 weeks. There w ere 9 excellent cases, 11 good cases, 4 fair cases and 2 poor cases. M ean flexion contracture was 11o and further flexion was 126o at last follow -up.

Conclusion: Bilateralreconstruction plate internalfixation using chevron olecranon osteotom y showed strong fixation and good clinical results and it is possible for early rehabilitation treatm ent.
